Sharp Money Indicators

Monitor professional betting signals, market movements, and line changes driven by informed wagering activity. All data is informational only.

Understanding Sharp Money

Sharp money refers to wagers placed by professional, experienced bettors — often called "sharps" — who have a demonstrable edge over standard market pricing. Their activity leaves traceable patterns that our platform detects and surfaces.

Reverse Line Movement

When a line moves in the opposite direction of where the majority of bets are placed, it typically indicates that a small number of large, sharp wagers are driving the market.

Steam Moves

Rapid, simultaneous line movement across multiple sportsbooks within a short time window — often the result of a coordinated professional syndicate placing large wagers.

Ticket vs. Money Split

When bet count percentage strongly disagrees with dollar volume percentage, it suggests that a few large, informed bets are moving the market against the crowd.

Sharp Money Terminology

Key terms used throughout this page and how to interpret them.

Reverse Line Movement (RLM)

When a betting line moves in the opposite direction of where the majority of public wagers are placed. If 65% of bets are on Team A but the line moves toward Team B, that suggests sharp (professional) action on Team B.

Steam Move

A sudden, sharp, coordinated line movement across multiple sportsbooks within a short timeframe. Often caused by betting syndicates placing large simultaneous wagers. Steam moves are among the clearest sharp money signals.

Ticket % vs. Money %

The percentage of individual bets (tickets) placed on each side vs. the percentage of total dollar volume. When money % significantly exceeds ticket %, a small number of large bets are driving the market.

Sharp vs. Square

"Sharps" are professional, sophisticated bettors who operate at scale and have a long-term edge. "Squares" are recreational bettors whose action, while large in volume, tends to follow public sentiment and media narrative.

Overround (Margin / Vig)

The bookmaker's built-in profit margin, expressed as the sum of all implied probabilities in a market minus 100%. A market with a 5% margin means a bettor must beat 105% just to break even over time.
